[WIKI] Shielding: Aluminum - energyweaponsatme - February 09, 2017 06:46

Several layers of aluminum foil, even heavy duty foil, is inadequate. Foil is too thin. Cheap aluminum foil is thinner than Reynolds. Reynolds aluminum foil is 0.64 mil thick. Reynolds heavy duty aluminum foil is 0.93 mil thick. Likewise, aluminum coating on mylar is too thin.

Since aluminum has only 50 to 60 percentage of the conductivity of copper, a thicker gauge of aluminum would be required to achieve the same shielding effectiveness as copper.

Most high frequency shielding problems are caused by openings in the shield material, and not by the material itself. Most conductive materials such as aluminum, copper and mild steel provide substantial electric shielding. At frequencies from 30 to 100 MHz, aluminum foil provides at least 85 dB of shielding effectiveness. Unfortunately, aluminum foil is extremely inadequate against low frequency magnetic fields, where thick steel or highly permeable ferrite material provides more adequate shielding.
